How does your view of God affect how you live?
How you view God affects how you live. What does that mean? If I don’t trust God to be who He says or to keep His promises, then I think too little of God. As a result, I don’t rely on Him. Or maybe I think He’s only sometimes going to answer my prayers or only if I’m really good is He going to listen to me. When I think that, I make prayer and devotions all about me. I should make them all about God.
When things get hard I need to remember to trust God to be who He says He is…my rock, my hope, my creator. He is strong, just, loving, and forgiving. And so much more! We can rely on Him. We can anchor to Him in the storms.
What’s the definition for rock? Firm foundation, immovable, stable, dependable, refuge, unbreakable.
What does the Bible tell us about God as our rock? Let’s take a look at a few verses.
“He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!”
Moses is reciting this song of God’s faithfulness. He’s reminding the Israelite people of God’s attributes. He is their Rock. (You can click on the Bible reference above to read more of this passage or any other ones listed below.)
“The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.”
David is singing this praise to God on the day God rescued him from his enemies. Read verses 1-3 and you will see how God is his rock.
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.”
A rock is a firm foundation in a storm. A wise man builds his house and his life on a strong rock. God is our rock. We can anchor ourselves to Him. He will not let us down.
As for me, I choose to anchor myself to the Rock. I want to take my eyes off myself and focus on the things I know to be true and trustworthy. When life gets rough, I want a solid foundation and a shelter from the storm. I want peace and hope in my heart. Isaiah 26:3-4 is my prayer this week. How I view God definitely and positively affects how I live.
